Background
Cameron has spent 10 years working in telecommunications and marketing — the two sides of the same problem that NumberBroom exists to solve. Telecoms is where phone data actually lives: line types, carrier records, portability, the reasons a number stops working. Marketing is where that data gets used badly, by teams buying lead lists and dialling them without knowing what is in the file.
Why NumberBroom exists
The pattern that prompted it: a sales team buys a list, dials it, and burns a meaningful share of the day on disconnected numbers and landlines that will never receive a text. Then, occasionally, someone dials a serial TCPA litigator and the cost of the exercise stops being measured in wasted hours.
The tools that solved this properly were priced for enterprise call centres — subscriptions starting in the hundreds per month, often with phone validation and litigator checking sold as separate products. For a team scrubbing a few thousand numbers a month, the licence cost more than the data.
NumberBroom is the version of that without the subscription: upload a CSV, see the exact cost before paying, get back a file with line type, carrier and litigator status appended to every row.
About the guides
The TCPA compliance guide and the glossary exist because most of what is published about the TCPA is either written by law firms for other lawyers, or by vendors who last updated it years ago.
The second problem is worse than it sounds. A great deal of currently-published TCPA content still describes the FCC's one-to-one consent rule as a live requirement — it was vacated by the Eleventh Circuit in January 2025 and never took effect. Content that stale is actively misleading for anyone trying to work out what they must do.
So every guide on this site cites its sources, states the date it was last checked, and says plainly where a rule is unsettled rather than pretending otherwise. Where NumberBroom cannot help — consent capture, for instance, which no scrubbing tool can manufacture — the guides say that too.
Corrections
TCPA and state telemarketing rules change often, and some of what is on this site will eventually be out of date. If you spot something wrong, say so — it will get fixed and the change date updated.

Who writes NumberBroom's compliance guides?
Cameron Hoffman writes them. They are reviewed against primary sources — the statute itself at 47 U.S.C. § 227, FCC orders, and FTC business guidance — and every page lists the sources it relied on so you can check the reasoning rather than take it on trust.
Is NumberBroom's content legal advice?
No. Cameron is not a lawyer and NumberBroom is not a law firm. The guides explain publicly available federal rules in plain English for people who run outbound calling operations. They are not a substitute for counsel on your specific situation, and every legal page says so.
